Prevent Distracted Driving Without Leaving Your Desk

Today, when I go on Facebook for a mid-afternoon break, I'm not just going to peruse profiles or laugh at people's silly statuses. I am going to help prevent distracted driving and improve road safety in America. Two important organizations for children's safety, National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) and KidsAndCars.org, are each using Facebook to raise both awareness and money.
The first you've probably already heard about as I've written about it previously. Figuring out how to get teens to stop texting while driving is no easy feat - and it's not just teens who are guilty of DWT anyway. That's why NOYS has teamed up with Allstate to create the "Thumbs Up to the Safest Holiday Ever" campaign. NOYS is challenging people to pledge *not* to text while driving by joining the cause on Facebook. For every person who joins, Allstate will donate $1 to NOYS for teen safe driving initiatives.
Give distracted driving a thumbs down and join the cause now. For more info, visit the Facebook page or NOYS.org
The second is a competition to win a million bucks. Kansas-based KidsAndCars.org is in the running to win a $1 million grant. To win, they need the most votes on Facebook - that's where you come in. KidsAndCars.org works to prevent motor vehicle-related injuries in children. Such injuries are the leading cause of death for kids in the U.S., according to KidsAndCars.org.
Vote for KidsAndCars.org now and every day until January 22nd to help them win. For more info, visit KidsAndCars.org or check out their Facebook page.
And voila - you've helped two important non-profits all from the comfort of your own desk (or couch, or patio...). Good for you, and thank you.
